First Chiropractic Visit

What Should I expect on my    first Chiropractic visit?

Consultation
You will be asked questions related to how your condition started, what makes your symptoms better or worse, the severity of your symptoms, how long you've had them and other related aspects of your health condition.

Physical Examination
After ruling out conditions that require an immediate medical referral, we will perform an evaluation of your neuromusculo-skeletal system (a long word for nerves, muscles and bones).

X-rays
X-rays provide information that will assist us in planning your treatment.  X-rays can reveal fractures, spinal misalignments, joints and bone disease.  You will typically review your X-rays or radiographs during your report of findings.  Your X-rays will become a very valuable part of your health records.

Report of Findings
An assessment of your condition will be given to you on what is known as a Report of Findings (ROF).  During the ROF, your doctor will discuss your diagnosis and your treatment plan.

Being Treated and Adjusted
If we have determined that your condition would benefit from Chiropractic care, part of your treatment plan will include a form a spinal manipulation or "adjustment".  A Chiropractic adjustment is the art of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a  joint that is fixated, "locked up", for not moving properly.  This adds motion to the joint, helping the bones gradually return to a more normal position and motion. The purpose of the safe and natural procedure is to normalize the improper spinal motion, therefore reducing nerve interference and improve health.

What is that cracking noise?
Most patients will sooner or later ask this question.  A joint contains fluid that helps keep it healthly and lubricated (like oil in the joints).  This "synovial fluid" contains gas (like carbonation in soft drinks).  When an adjustment is made you may hear a noise (called an "audible release").  The audible release or "crack" is simply the release of gas in the joint like when your open a can of soda.

Therapies
We may utilize various complimentary therapies to assist in your treatment.  Physiotherapy modalities (common ones are ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, heat and ice), massage therapy, rehabilitative exercises and stretches.
